Visit us everywhere and always

To all the girls who live under the Northern lights,
To all the ladies who can only see the Boreal Forest from their porch,
To all the gals who bathe in Lake Louise…

The launch of our web store means:
1) you can show your cousin in Red Deer what your favorite shop is all about,

3) it will be easier to show your lover exactly what you want as a gift.

We hope you all start seeing a whole lot more of your post man!

Big thanks to Eimhin, Mike, Erin and Sage. All our love for life.

Who the Flip is Karl Lagerfeld?

We are so excited that our pal Kelli is going to be curating an art show at Canteen next week, and the best part is that the theme is KARL LAGERFELD!!
Inspired by Emily Holton's imaginary portraits of the man himself, Who The Flip is Karl Lagerfeld?! called for artists to take some time to seriously ponder the celebrity enigma that is Karl. Artists chose to create literal portraiture of Karl, question the social phenomenon of his celebrity, discuss his debated genius and coveted design work, or simply expose the complete ridiculousness of a man who wears motorcycle gloves every day.

The opening of Who The Flip is Karl Lagerfeld?! will take place on Thursday April 2nd at Canteen (in the old Victoire space!) and runs till the 16th. It features artists from Ottawa, Toronto and even Germany, and of course everyone is invited to come and check out all the amazing Karl art and spend the night celebrating Mr. Lagerfeld!

Attendees are invited to dress in Karl inspired clothing, or wear something that would make Karl proud!

In honour of Karl, an endless suppy of Coca-Cola (his one major vice) will be on hand, along with Karl- inspired party favours.

See y'alls there!

Outfit of the Week:

Here are a few new favourite pieces that I think make a pretty cute outfit for the weekend. Whether your plans include dancing your bum off to Lady Gaga tonight, having a chill night at the Bytowne or hittin' the sauce with some pals (or all three!), a girly blouse and high waist skirt are always a safe bet.

LnE Blouse for $150

Mink Pink skirt for $85.

Astrid vintage key neclace for $33.

And enjoy your weekend!

Boardwalks and Boulevards

Have you ever questioned the sanity of our ancesters for settling in such a cold spot? If you have ever been to Miami, you will know for sure our ancesters were certifiable. The sun, the beach and yummy food: you would come visit us wouldn't you? 'Cause we are moving... well probably not, but we sure will go back!

For a few days we did not much of anything: two naps a day and lots of wine makes for our paradise. We did explore about three blocks of South Beach (while looking for either food or the liquor store), but always found our way back to the beach very quickly.

Napping and eating were our top priorities for sure. Here are some yummy meals we had.

I think it's against the law in Miami to serve drinks in glasses that are NOT humongous. We are down with the spirit of that law for sure.

We decided to eat healthy this meal. Though my salad also had some nice steak on top, yum! And yes, it's also totally acceptable to wear a skirt over your bathing suit to walk around town in Miami. Good thing too, cos I only packed like 2 actual tops, but 4 bathing suits!

Oprah said these were the "best cakes in America!" I'm so sorry Oprah, but just this one time I will have to respectfully disagree :(

Something you should know about Miami though, is that no one there looks like you. Unless you look like this.

And they're a little off their rocker there.

But I guess so are we cos we packed all these shoes for a 3 day trip.

The magic is in her eyes

CNN (WEIRD right!?!) has done a documentary, Revealed, on Carine Roitfeld, editor in chief of Vogue Paris. The piece follows Roitfeld through her work and definitly provides her a major introduction to mainstream America. Is this the first step towards her replacing Anna Wintour? American Vogue is definitely a lot of blah these last few (many few) months, but would Roitfeld fit the part? Could her conceptual and fun sense of style revolutionize Vogue America? Sure couldn't make it any staler, though I did love Michelle Obama last month.

Find the rest of the series at CNN or on Youtube.

Voted most likely to stay awesome

When thinking of your prom 'look' (or gala, or class reunion, or really any other time you want to upstage everyone) you've got to really reflect on what you want. These Grecian inspired dresses have chill gal written all over them. They tell the world: You are an over achiever, but the burnouts love ya too.

Taddeo, not tomorrow

With everyone talking about the Lady Gaga show on Friday, I immediately thought of Montreal-based & Calgary-bred designer Travis Taddeo.

Travis Taddeo
Making the ballsy move to Montreal at the age of 21, he immediately started making a splash on the underground nightlife scene by dressing himself and his friends in his signature clothes. Everyone who meets Travis is immediately taken by his charm, kindness and talent, so it's no wonder that people have been asking us about this line ever since we opened.

Travis Taddeo
For his summer collection, he imagined a composition of Greek armour and draping mixed with a futuristic bent. The result is party dresses that are bold and sexy - hallmarks of every Travis Taddeo collection - but also strong and smart.

Girls who wear these dresses are lotsa hotsa, and they know it. And we love that.

With a little help from my friends

You know how friends are, always asking for favors? Well thank god they know when to buy the wine, cause they sure do ask for a lot! Just kidding, just kidding we love favors, anything to pump up the Karma!!!

A friend is looking for help finding a designer (or assistant-designer, or something) and we figured you'all may know someone. If yes, just let them know to e-mail us. We can forward it along.

O sweet spontaneous

One of my alltime favourite poets is e.e Cummings; reading his poems at this time of the year reminds me that spring is just around the corner (thank gawd). For a sentimental shmuck like myself, it really doesn`t get any better than him.

O sweet spontaneous
earth how often have
the
doting

fingers of
purient philosophers pinched
and
poked

thee
, has the nasty thumb
of science prodded
thy

beauty . how
often have religions taken
thee upon their scraggy knees
squeezing and

buffeting thee that thou mighest conceive
gods
(but
true

to the incomparable
couch of death thy
rythmic
lover

thy answerest

them only with

spring)

Acid Tongue

Hooray, new things from Lily and Jae!! I envision almost this entire collection finding a sweet little home in the closet of Jenny Lewis. Mini dresses and 70's charm are abundant in this Vancouver based line, and as always, it is mixed with a little bit of tomboy charm. If only Jenny strolled right in this afternoon looking for a delightful dress to wear on tour this summer; I would have so many great shop girl suggestions! Except I would probably get far too hysterical to make any real, functioning sentences. Oh well, the chances are pretty slim I suppose.

We Love Preloved!

The Toronto based designers at Preloved have an undeniably great attitude towards fashion: a little practical, a little whimsy and a whole lotta love for the environment. Made from all recycled bits of clothing, they take reworked vintage to a whole new level. You have probably heard us yammer on about them a lot, but this collection is seriously the very best yet!

Preloved Issa, Crywolf
My favourite is the Issa Skirt for $144. (Shown here with Crywolf T, 30$)

Preloved Issa
Which upon further inspection is actually reconstructed from a mens suit coat (Oh, what envy I have for such skills on the sewing machine!)

Preloved Kalani
And the Kalani Zip front dress is $170.

Also the ruffle top from a couple posts ago is another Preloved fave.

We will also be featuring the SS09 Preloved Collection in a mini fashion show at the Spins and Needles Clothing Remix + Remake Swap Party on April 25th. More info on sidebar or at the S&N Website It looks soooo fun!
