Okay, now that school is done for pretty much everyone (unless you are still in high school, in which case our heart goes out to you big time), let the chill times roll. All I feel like doing lately is wearing things that are comfy, good for a lazy bike ride/coffee combo and generally pretty relaxed. Maybe the free time is getting to my head...
Velour stripe top for $96
Dace Wettig Sweater for $180
Steel Magnolias Vintage Bag for $15
House of Spy Slouch skirt for $70
And Steel Magnolias earrings for $19, if I may be so bold as to match heart-shaped earrings with a skirt!
And there yah' go. Cool, comfy, and if you stop by Ideal Coffee any time this week, it's very probable that you will find me book in hand, coffee on table, and bike outside, wearing some version of this very look. Oh, school, I know we were on the rocks for a while, and i'm so glad we decided to take a break from one another. I think it will be good for both of us.
Surrealism of the 1930's will forever fascinate me, probably because I know too little about visual association to know what the artist wants us to realize through his work. This leaves me making up my own story lines. In a way it affirms that ignorance is bliss, because I can't imagine Vítězslav Nezval novel being any better then the story in my head when I am watching the movie based on his work:
(Or maybe the confidence I have in my imagination is merely masking my inability to learn good...)
Katie and I often marvel at how designers can predict many many months ahead of us exactly how we'll be feeling so many months down the line. We have our jobs cut out for us trying to figure out what you guys will be into months into the future when we do our buying, but they've got us beat for sure in mind-reading abilities. I guess it should be no surprise that Nokomis' spring collection is exactly the kind of clothing we want to be wearing now - we've said it before, we are twin brains seperated by a few provinces.
Dusk dress, 220$
Nokomis is a clothing line made in the canadian prairies, and this collection is probably the truest reflection of that. They use organic silhouettes, unique detailing and lissome fabrics to construct items of effortless beauty. They draw from their surroundings to create garments which are playful yet remain timeless.
Peaseblossom dress, 180$
This particular collection reflects nostalgia for days of daydreaming, dress-up, grasshoppers, and hours spent entertaining oneself in the exquiste colours of a prairie summer.
We are so excited that La Chatte Bottee are coming back for a spring edition. If you have never been, your minds are gonna be blown by all the amazing selections of vintage shoes (in all sizes!). If you are an old fan of La Chatte Bottee, you know what we are talking about! Don't forget to bring cash, and we suggest arriving early cause it gets CRAZY. La Chatte Bottee will be at Victoire this Saturday, May 2nd from 2pm -9pm. We will also be offering 10% off everything at Victoire during the party, so hourray!
Be honest, how many of you called in sick today? Are taking an extra long lunch? Are trying madly to think of an excuse to tell your parents when you fail your exam tomorrow because you just can't waste today studying?
We took our summer loving to the park. Playing like kids sorta gives us insight into the kind of child we each were:
Lily & Jae Bloomer, $160 Erin was definitely a dreamer, head in the clouds, probably had a pet rock (be honest!)
Sessun Escapade Vichy dress. $215
Shasha must have been an easy-breezy kid. Loved playing, naps and snack time! The holy trinity of perfect events to a kid.
Lily & Jae Jae's jumper, $170 Ula was the boss, I am sure she had every kid on the play ground playing her games. She definitely had a version of tag where Ula is never 'it'.
Get your crew together and get out from behind the desk. It's gorgeous out!
As you all know, the ladies of Victoire are quite the Beyonce fans. I am especially digging the music videos for her new album, I am Sasha Fierce. Both "single ladies", and "diva" feature rocking dance choreography by Jaquel Knight. This rising star is popularizing a style of dance called J-Setting. It is centered around an eight beat count and originated on the dance floors of the southern U.S black gay club scene. Just like Madonna with Voguing, Beyonce is rockin J-Setting! It's the next big thing. Check it out and next time you hit the dance floor be sure to throw in some of these sweet moves.
What better way to celebrate the start of summer than by weaving some flowers into your hair, putting on a summer dress without tights and eating a banana popsicle? Trick question: there is no better way!!

Tonight we are having a mini fashion show as part of the Spins & Needles Clothing Remix + Remake Party. The night looks soooooo rad: there will be a huge giant clothing swap ( bring a bag of gently used clothes and 10$ for cover), sewing machines on hand for alterations and bedazzling, our fashion show, some delicious treats, and of course great music.
It all happens tonight from 8 till 12 at the Junior Ranks Mess Hall (aka big red building beside City Hall at 4 Queen ELizabeth Dr.) Come and say hello, and as a bonus you might just find the perfect summer dress!
3 tickets were purchased for Beyonce’s “I Am...” tour. No tour stops in Toronto or Montreal meant we had to get tickets for the NYC show at Madison Square Gardens which also happens to be the first US date – SO, ya know – the likelihood of a certain someone making a special appearance is practically guaranteed!
Needless to say, I am BEYOND psyched. Watch this video for Diva and try to even resist jumping on the phone with Ticketmaster!
I can’t say it enough – no other artist in this day and age is as worthy of the title ICON as Beyonce, and she deserves major props for always taking huge chances and pushing the limits. And this time that extends to selecting Thierry Mugler as creative advisor and designer for 71 (!) of her tour’s outfits.
The costumes, he says show “the duality between being a woman and a warrior. “ Or, the duality of being Sasha Fierce and Beyonce. It’s hard having an alter-ego. Everyone calls you a diva for doing it, but no one gave Eminem slack for his Slim Shady alter-ego. So in the spirit of the BEST ROAD TRIP TO NYC EVER, I am here on in adopting my own alter-ego. Her name is Astral Fields. She likes to wear tye-dye and just chill out. What Régine would consider lazy and would stress about not working, Astral Fields would just say “yo, you need to just relaxxxx”.
See, this chick don't care. She's just gonna lean here for a while and sip her drank.
Dear Jude, Thank you one million times over for the collection you designed. Love only begins to describe our feelings. You are a master of your craft. You make it easy for us to live our lives in bliss and happiness. Xoxo for life.
Lily & Jae Bloomer dress, $160
We got in the rest of our Lily & Jae spring gems. Holly heck! We loved them so much, and there are so many, that we forced ourselves to each choose our favorite dress to highlight.
The best part of Shasha's dress is:
Built in bloomers!!!
She is wearing it with a tutu Jude made, super cute, we only have a few so come pick it up quick ($90).
Date dress, $160
Regine's dress is perfectly named. The Date dress is fit for exactly that: summer flings! If you aren't heading out on a date in this dress, wearing it will surely inspire those around you to make a claim on your Saturday night.
Delighted, $140
I need to have lots of lemon tarts while wearing this dress and drink only pink lemonade.
Need a cure all for this grey day? Here you go bunnies, it's tested and has a 100% success rate:
Sessun Ninon, $185
Put on a cutie-pie dress, the one in your closet that makes you feel like the queen of the universe. No reason to look glum!
Dream about the beach. But only for 25 minutes, or you will get lost in it.
Start planning the next party, which for us means booking up Ula's Tivo and figuring out who knows how to work a grill.
Genevieve Jodouin, $5
Sit down and write a LONG love letter. Or write a spicy note that brings the point home, loud and clear!
If all this fails, know that tomorrow I am posting super exciting dresses that are just not fit to talk about on a grey day. Or just go watch this week's episode of Gossip Girl again, I certainly won't judge you cause I definitely will be!!
I was really really sick this weekend, like seriously. Which meant no rock show on Friday, no chilling with Marc who came down for the weekend, no Ottawa Youth Gala and just no fun at all!!! It does mean I spend a lot of time in bed with the company of cats and blogs. Here are my current favs:
Life ain't easy, but looking fab is a cinch with all the new items we've just received from Complex Geometries. Our boy Clayton, the designer behind Complex is ruling the racks of NYC right now. Be the first to rock his pieces in O-Town!
