As you've surely noticed from the sudden influx of goods from NYC-based jewelry lines, Katie and I returned last week from another inspiring and awesome trip to New York City. We were accompanied by our buds MC (our honourary shopgirl and BFF - we used to work at Amuse together and boy does she miss it cos whenever the opportunity arises to help out around the shop, boy does she ever jump at the chance. Seriously, just wait and see her in action at the party on the 11th), Nick (Katie's hubby and my brother from another mother) and Chad (who's first trip to NYC it was! Always exciting to see the city through a new pair of eyes). With this crew, there was no doubt that there would be some wacky shiz going down.
No more than a few hours into our trip, wacky shiz indeed. We got pulled over for speeding, Nick explained what happened, and then the officer returned with our ticket with Nick's explanation written verbatim on the bottom:
"There was a guy doing some wacky things with his truck, so I sped up to get past him."
As much of a bummer as getting a ticket was, the thought of the officer typing this up in his car made us totally crack up.

We got into town and checked into our hotel, but were told that they had had a fire the night previous. Bummer # 2! Or so we thought. We were transfered to the
Gild Hall hotel just down the block and talk about a classic "cloud with a silver lining" example - this hotel was 1000 x more awesome than the one we were supposed to stay in! It really felt like it was meant to be that we ended up there since the hotel was like a manlier version of Victoire - lots of wood, leather, gold accents and vintage photographs and paraphenalia everywhere.

This is their bar!

The hallways had amazing 70s glamour shots.
On Friday night we went to a
Hunx & his Punx and
No Bunny show in Williamsburg after dinner at one of our favourite spots
Relish. I sang along to every word and danced like a maniac (Chad later accused me of stomping on his feet, but whatev) - NYC would not see dancing like this from the likes of me until later that week-end when we saw Beyonce!

That's Katie there using her good arm to get a little closer to Hunx.

Also fyi, No Bunny is coming back to Ottawa on
August 8th (playing with local faves the
White Wires) and to be sure this is a show not to be missed!

Get a room you two. Preferably one that isn't shared with 3 of your closest friends.

Saturday night we had ribs at a place called
Daisy Mae's that came recommended by Oprah (hmmm, I'm beginning to see a theme here - we went to an Oprah restaurant in Miami too.) Oh well, at least she's not asking us to jump off a bridge or anything. In which case I would say WHICH BRIDGE?!

Aaahhhh!!!! This is where all of our dreams came true and Jay-Z came out during Crazy in Love and we jumped up an down like we were seeing the Beatles at Shea Stadium. Honestly, if I had really let myself go there, I coulda definitely cried a few times during the show.

This was one of my favourite parts of the show. The video & staging was super disco. Proving what I have been saying for a while (or at least hoping for) - Disco is back! Now will a bar please please play Night Fever for me next time we go out PLEASE?
Katie quote: "Oh my god, that is so fabulous." That pretty much sums up the entire show!

On our last day, Erica from
Species by the Thousands brought us to AMAZING vintage deadstock supply stores - which means we'll have lots of new Steel Magnolias jewelry in the shop in the next little bit. We were so stoked to get an insider's access to these places - we never would have come across them ourselves. The picture below is of her totally rad manicure! It actually had little tiny chains glued to her nails. This is definitely going on our to-do list for the next time we're in the city.
