Everybody listen up. There is a new line at Victoire! Mauve Naif is a really unique line of tees and sweatshirts that are sure to up the cool factor in your wardrobe.
Don't be fooled. These box heads know what they are doing!
Many of you have probably already heard, but there is big Victoire news that has us all so excited. On January 1st we get the keys to our 2nd shop at 1282 B Wellington Street in West Wellington Village! Twice the old time-y, cutie-pie rock'n'roll-ness for us all!!
Our minds are thinking of the wild west, the gold rush and the pioneers that brought Canadians to imagine their future in the West, like we do now! Lucky for us, instead of finding a whole lot of open plains, we get to move in beside some of the best businesses Ottawa has to offer: delicious lunches, adorable shops and inspiring galleries. We are already in love with Ottawa's west!
We can't say for sure when we will open, but we will let you all know when you can come in and help us open the shop. WE can't wait for the grand opening party, it's sure to be the Hoe-Down of the year!!
Making New Year's Eve plans is always the hardest. A big blow out where you end up with a lamp shade on your head? Or a warm, cozy night at the cottage with close friends and a killer game of dice? It's the last big choice of 2009, and our band of friends are still debating it. I do know what I will be wearing to either option though, which solves half the problem!
Losing our marbles requires a sparkly dress:
House of Spy Soiree dress, org. $200 on sale for $150
Cozy option calls for a dress I can snuggle on the sofa in:
It's such a magical time of year we truly hope you are taking full advantage of it all! Let your inner child out and embrace the snowball fights, the cookie tummy-aches and absolutely don't forget to wait up for Santa!
Then on boxing day (and the whole week!) come down and go nuts over Victoire's sale! There'll be lots of deals to be had with most clothing reduced by 20-70% off. We'll be open on Boxing Day from 10:00-6:00 p.m. Ula is making cookies too, so save some room (or make some new room). We still have lots of great New Year's dresses, so this is your chance to scoop up your party dress at a discount!
Here are our hours for the next couple of days so that you can plan your visit: Dec. 26th 10-6 Dec 27th 12-5 Dec 28th 10-6 Dec 29th 10-6 Dec 30th 10-6 Dec 31st 10-5 Jan 1st, Closed due to massive head ache!
Living in the Great White North can be challenging during the cold months of the year. It's hard staying warm when the temperature is -20 and wind chill is involved (yesterday). I find myself wishing that I could just wear my blanket around all day. Although, I am not saying I want one of those Snuggie things.........
I want something way cooler that I can wear in public and not have people confuse me for a monk or an extra from Logan's Run. Something interesting, yet comfortable and easy...............oh yeah
Complex Geometries sad rainbow tee $88
Complex Geometries Tunnel $102
Perfect! You girls look like comfy little angels in those Complex Geometries tops.
I was really enjoying it at the shop the other day, until the theme song for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation came on. Then it was love.
Along with Elf, this is probably my fave Christmas movie. Lots of classic jokes from this that get repeated in my fam (ie. my mom & me), especially at this time of year such as "My eye-balls are frozen", and like when Eddie calls dibs on the turkey neck. Here are some more classics:
Bethany: Is your house on fire, Clark? Clark: No, Aunt Bethany, those are the Christmas lights.
Clark: Since this is Aunt Bethany's 80th Christmas, I think she should lead us in the saying of Grace. Aunt Bethany: What, dear? Nora Griswold: Grace! Aunt Bethany: Grace? She passed away thirty years ago. Uncle Lewis: They want you to say Grace. [Bethany shakes her head in confusion] Uncle Lewis: The BLESSING! Aunt Bethany: [they all pose for prayer] I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands/ One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Clark: Amen.
Clark: Oh, I was just smelling - smiling. I was just blouse - browsing. I, uh, heh heh. Well, I guess it just wouldn't be the Christmas shopping season if the stores were any less hooter than they - HOTTER than they are. Whew. It is warm in here, isn't it? Mary: You have your coat on. Clark: Ah yes I do, why is that? Mary: Because it's cold out. Clark: Yes it is, it's a bit nipply out. I mean nippy out, what did I say, nipple? Huh, there is a nip in the air.
Rusty Griswold: Dad, this tree won't fit in our back yard. Clark: It's not going in the yard, Russ. It's going in the living room.
Clark: So, when did you get the tenament on wheels? Eddie: Oh, that uh, that there's an RV. Yeah, yeah, I borrowed it off a buddy of mine. He took my house, I took the RV. It's a good looking vehicle, ain't it? Clark: Yeah, it looks so nice parked in the driveway. Eddie: Yeah, it sure does. But, don't you go falling in love with it now, because, we're taking it with us when we leave here next month.
For anyone interested, the Mayfair is playing Christmas vacation tomorrow and Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.!
If you happen to be searching for some good holiday reading material, may I suggest a little something from D. Sedaris? His short story collection Holidays on Ice is filled with fearless funny (you guessed it) Christmas and holiday themed stories. Apparently David Sedaris loves Christmas, but you would never know it from this collection. A generous helping of scroogelike sentiments fill the pages and will probably leave you helplessly consumed by giggles. I personally can't get through his scathing critique of an elementary school Christmas pagent without shedding a tear or two.
You can listen to some stories from the book performed live here. Enjoyed best with some fresh baked cookies and a cozy blanket.
You all know how much we love needle work and cross stitching, so when we stumbled upon Nea it was love at first sight. She makes cute little cross stitch pieces, and fantastic jewelry. What a talented gal!
For your sisters, aunties or girlfriends we definitely recommend her pieces. They are guaranteed to please. If we were cheesy used car sales men, we would give you a money back guarantee that is how much we stand behind Nea's cuteness. But we aren't, so we will give you a thumbs way up to this gift instead... And that might count for a lot more!
Good Idea: Buying your favourite girl the newest issue (thats nine big ones!) of Worn (6$) or better yet, a whole gift pack of Worn magazines with issues 4-8 and two adorable buttons to show your support for legit Canadian fashion journalism (24$).
Bad Idea: Buying your favourite girl this album:
Good Idea: Making an extralarge batch of mulled wine with your best pals and curling up by the fire (or the TV) for some r. and r.
Bad Idea: Any kind of extreme winter sports; its wayyy too cold for that to be fun. Especially like this guy, who thinks it's a good idea to jump out of a helicopter and ski down an icy vertical cliff. Serious bad idea written all over it.
Don't you just love it when a person on your Christmas shopping list wants the impossible? You know they don't want a necklace or a nice blouse. I really hate that! For me I have three people on that list: my husband, my brother and my dad.... well they might just fit that bill cause they force me to shop elsewhere then Victoire.
Except now Victoire has even them covered! Yup we have a men's corner stocked with vintage playing cards, bow ties fit for a gentlemen, and old books made for a scholar. Gifts that are sure to fit those pesky boy wishes!

Booze pup, $15 A perfect combination of man's two best friends.
Set of 4 glasses, $24 For the gamer in your life.

I have been really surprisingly good this year, I really tried to be anyways. And i am so excited cause my big reward day is coming. Being good for goodness sake isn't worth it if I don't get a bunch of gifts under the tree! So here is everything this nice gal wants:
I have to stay really cozy and i am always thinking about the environment, so these Preloved mitts made from recycled sweaters are perfect for me! $22
A new wallet is grand, and these Broondoor one's are made from recycled leather which is LOVE. What will make them even better is if they are filled with cash! Yeah!!
This dress would inspire me to be a foxy Betty Crocker and make lots of delicious dessert. You would benefit from this next year when you stop by to drop off the gifts! House of Spy, $124
Or you could just send me lots of sweets from a place this cute and then I wouldn't have to find a recipe and all the ingredients and figure out if my oven works. I would like this very much!
I need lots of cute nighties from the '60s that are perfect for being lazy in but still looking like a precious angel.
I also need a little guy like him, so so so badly! I will name him anything you want just bring me one.
Even baby Jesus knew to ask for gold for his birthday, so let the wise men in your life gift you with gold this Christmas holiday! And in that spirit may we present you our newest designer Nicole Ginsberg. An Ottawa ex-pat, we know you will just fall in love with her pieces because they were designed with a Victoire shopper in mind!
N.Ginsberg, $98
N. GInsberg, $64
All her pieces are made with 14kt gold and semi precious stones. They are beautiful and precious. And remember what our grandma's taught us, gold will always get you out of a bind! (...unless you lose your jewels in your linen closet because you sewed your jewelry into sheet corners. My grandma also use to hide liquor bottles under her bed which always made me think she might party too hard, but nope, she just doesn't want thieves to get "the good stuff").
Sorry Sorry Sorry! I know that as I write this post there is a bona fide blizzard going on outside and I should be thinking about exams and winter, not fantasizing about bikes, but I just found the absolute coolest bike in the world, and I just had to share it.
It's called the King of the Road and it probably costs a million dollars and those roadkill antlers would probably impale me if I ever got into an accident but it just looks so good!
