Running out of compliments for your girl?
I've compiled some gems to get you into the Valentines Day mood.
"Before you got here, were you an air scientist? Because your ass blah blah blah, you get the point." - Tracy Jordan, 30 Rock
“Do you have any boyfriends?”
“Not really.”
“Are they crazy? If I was a fellow, I'd be around all the time.”
-Steve Martin, The Jerk
“God. You're a real live outlaw!”
“I may be the outlaw, but you're the one stealin' my heart.”
-Gina Davis and Brad Pitt, Thelma and Louise
"Was your father a butcher?"
"Err, No"
"Cuz your ass looks like two fine hams!"
- Nick
alright so if these don't work for ya, nothing says "you're a rad chick" like gifts from Victoire!
....Just sayin'

I wish you were here, but you're not!
New shoesies from dv that would probably look amazing with all the new Dace and Valerie Dumaine pieces we got this week! I seriously think the postman is trying to torture me with all these beautiful spring deliveries when its -30 degrees outside! I'm totally unamused by it all.

We have these but in gray for $145

And these in plain black for $105

These in the brown as shown for $145

And finally these in dark brown with silver studs for $125

Wish I had a Suntan, a Pizza and a Bottle of Wine
As new spring items begin to trickle into the store I always eagerly anticipate the arrivals from Dace. Their collections, but the spring ones especially, get me excited about the upcoming season more than anything else. After trugding to work in a rediculously ugly and poofy parka plus sorel boots, the dreamest thing a girl can see is racks of gorgeous linen dresses and crop tops. As soon as my feet thaw out i'm gonna crank the heat and try on these new babies and try to pretend spring is just around the corner!

We appreciate you and your killer dance moves
You are all very familiar with our deep and everlasting love for Beyonce. She rules at everything and is the #1 popstar ever and forever. Yeah that is how we feel in 2 sentences, but we have had hours upon hours of conversation about her.
We have spent even more time perhaps trying to master her moves.

Mink Pink, $79
Ah, the ponytail swing. It's dramatic and slick but it also serves the purpose of cutting loose like no other.

Regine's b-day is coming up and I am on the look out for a hair piece that will allow her to master this:
Take it up a notch and all.

Mink Pink, $125
The single ladies hand wave. Perfectly teamed up with an indifferent face.

Or a mocking smirk.

Wow Suzy!
So with the cold weather becoming increasingly sunny, I've been making more plans to hit the ski hill. I know, I know it's more then halfway through winter already, it's just i have such a hard time doing outdoor activities when the possibility of frostbite is anywhere near. In preparation to get up there i pulled out my snow pants and everything out the other day and man it was depressing. I don't know what I've been thinking but i suppose i was caught up in my snow bum snowboarder look a little too much because my snow pants are giant. Really, i tried them on and not only do they fall almost right off of me, but they are kind of flared...like a really giant pair of cargo pants that a rapper may have worn in 1999. Needless to say, this year i am giving myself a ski hill makeover. My dream originally was to find a cute one piece that is fitted and belted that i can wear with pom pom hats, but those are not so easy to find. But then, i thought maybe i should just change my entire sport...for those of you who are bored with the repetitiveness of skiing or the leg cramps that come with snowboarding, i give you, your new hero...Suzy Chaffee!
Suzy was an alpine ski racer, model and Chapstick spokeswoman of the 1970's. Best of all...she was a star at something that is called freestyle skiing ballet. Check out this video, it's Suzy in all her glory with her ski partner John Eaves. Once you get over the initial hilariousity of it, you realize that they are actually quite good, can you imagine how hard that would be?
I'm also really liking the jacket...

Play it smart, stick with us!
It doesn't take a whole lot of book smarts to know why we are totally in love with ChainChainChained. Adorable charms mixed with a price that is just right, the perfect combo! We are super duper happy to have received a new shipment, so use your IQ and come on down!!

Last night I couldn't sleep. Woke up over and over again, tossing and turning. I couldn't stop wrestling with the reality that the new store has no antlers.
Not a single one. Can it still be Victoire without antlers?...oh man I am not sure...

In more happy, less anxious news, I am so excited for you to try on these Mink Pink dresses. We got in a few other styles, but I am so excited for these 2:

This last dress we did in a midnight blue and black combo. Adorable!Happy Monday darlings, xoxo.

The new Victoire NEEDS Thor!!
Today's another day of getting the new shop in Westboro ready for you guys, and like Katie mentioned in the previous post, we're finally at the fun stage of decorating! I think a huge part of the reason why Katie and I love being the owners of Victoire is that we get to indulge our flea market and antiquing addictions by justifying purchases by saying "Well we NEED it for the new store!" Honestly, right now we're contemplating buying a pretty pricey but absolutely gorgeous Victrola that would serve pretty much no purpose in the shop other than to look simply breathtaking...Which may be reason enough. Anyways, I guess you'll see in a little over a week if we actually decide to take the plunge and buy it. Anyhow, when I read about this item in a Christie's auction on Roadkill's blog, I thanked our lucky stars that there is no way we could ever actually remotely afford it, otherwise Katie and I would surely be clamouring to buy it as a business card holder or something.

This skull and bones ballot box is currently up for auction by a totally bad-ass secret seller! How cool is that?!?! It's from 1872 and once belonged to Yale's Skull and Bones Society.
In other exciting news, Spring merchandise keeps on trickling in at the Dalhousie shop! We've got 2 new styles from Colcci, and some wicked new stuff from Mink Pink, yippee!! Come and check 'em out. Also, mention the secret word "THOR" and get an extra 10% off any sale purchase from now until Friday, January 29th!

Do you like it???
The renovations are almost done at the new location. We are at the decorating stage! After all the crappy reno. jobs we are so happy to be at the part we are actually good at doing. The theme is old-timey (obviously otherwise it wouldn't be Victoire), sports and musical instruments. We have other things in the mix too, but we are trying to keep it pretty focused.
xoxo.

We have a few new Dace pieces and Mink Pink should arrive Friday. To give you a better taste of what Dace is all about this season and to give you a glimpse of what 'A Canadian in Paris' looks like':

It's got rhythm, music and techno color!
Our internet at the store is down, which is why we haven't been making blog posts! So sorry darlings, but what can you do when your supposed friend Roger doesn't keep the internet flowing. Sometimes Roger sucks so bad as a friend we think of befriending Alex Bell, he seems like a good guy, yeah maybe we will do that!
Oh but Roger isn't all bad. He lets us watch all the great movies in his collection, and we don't even have to leave the house. Last night we got to watch 'An American in Paris" in Technicolor!
It was great. Roger we almost forgive you but get our internet back on will ya!

Chapped Lips and Runny Noses
Another big thumbs up to cozy scarves, these ones by Mimi! These are all hand knit, superwarm tube scarves, made with 100% Peruvian wool! Now what does this mean you ask? It means that the wool is not only from Peru, but that its sooo soft and not at all itchy like those other scummy scarves that I always get at thrift stores. I think it's one of those things; like once you go Peruvian wool you never go back!

Thumbs up to staying warm in this awful climate.

Details of the knit.

And we have three colours right now, all $89 bucks, and seriously worth every penny in warmth!

"We never go out in big cities except in what we woud wear to church in Newport on Sundays."
Occasionally my Mother's antiquing and intense thrifting has become an issue. I mean how many white porcelain milk jugs do we really need? I am always met with the response "But they were made in (insert year) by (insert old company that is no longer in business)." I'm sure one day when I am old and bankrupt from buying every Dace piece from every season I will appreciate the fact that i have ten porcelain milk jugs to sell for fifty bucks a pop. Every now and then though, she does come back with a little something for me, and needless to say, my Mother knows me all to well, because this time, after returning from a flea market in Perth, she brought me a spectacular book that i will most definitely keep for the rest of my life.

The book was originally written by the sisters as a thank-you gift and scrapbook of sorts for their Mother, Lee and Jacqueline's combined written contributions and Jacqueline's sketches are are all done by hand and elaborated with snapshots. The respectable naughtiness of the sisters is hilarious and not far from what a girl would write if she was to take a trip alone with her sister today. Of a photo of Jackie being squeezed close by a Parisian gentlemen Lee writes "they seem interested in showing us their country" and next to a photo of Jackie and Lee wearing shorts and strappy sandals "we never go out in big cities except in what we would wear to church in Newport on Sundays."

In the Spring of 1951 Lee and Jacqueline Bouvier (who later became Jacqueline Bouvier Onassiss) begged their parents for permission to travel to Europe together for the Summer...unsupervised. Lee was 18 at the time, and sister Jacqueline 22. Much to their delight the begging and pleading paid off and when summer began they boarded the Queen Elizabeth.

Their adventures are hilarious and unexpected, from selling their rental car in Paris to spending their afternoons with art historian Bernard Berenson to sneaking into first class on the ship, they are mischievous and wild! I love, love, love this book and if you ever get your hands on it don't let go! It is special and surely one of a few as they are difficult to come by nowadays.

Have you read this before? Tell me so i can share my excitement with someone!

I would trade two of my friends for these cuties.
Here at Victoire we have carried quirky and sentimental greetings cards for a while, but we are so happy to welcome Sycamore Street Press from Utah (I sound like a beauty pageant host...).
Each of these jems is hand printed with a really cool vintage letterpress and soy ink, and they are the most perfect thing that say what you gotta say but with a little sass and a wink and a nudge. The art on the covers is also a really pretty and comical alternative to a cheesy Hallmark that sings Mariah Carey when you open it, although "Vision of Love" is catchy at times. Sycamore Street Press has brought you some new #1's with these special cards...

$6 Each.
We have a load more too, including one with words of praise "Great job on that thing you did. Really super." and one just to says a "G'Day Mate." and my favorite one that's got a print of a handsome owl with the words "Woot, Woot." Love, Love, Love them! Come on in and see for yourself...

Sofia rules
Man this video totally brings me back to grade 7 politics and the illustrious Queen Bee. I am so glad to have only had to live through all that once and I sure do wish it looked and sounded as cool as Sofia Coppola's first ever video:

Things to heart
1) When we get a super nice article written about us. Check us out in Hearty this month!
2) When said nice articles are contained in an online publication we already love
3) Triple bonus if that online publication is run by a bunch of bad-ass chicks we love who are MAKING THINGS HAPPEN.
xoxo we love you guys!
Though I am kinda bummed (though not surprised, and honestly respect their editorial decision) NOT to include this picture I sent along with the others of me posing next to our fawn and his merchant stone medallion (that's citrine, dontcha know? thank you Crystal Dawn!).

Johnnys Bird
Moni Hayworth's website Johnnys Bird is always a joy to visit. Her photos are just plain fun! At times silly and other times provocative, they always manage to embrace the excesses and joys of youthfulness. Her shoots are impecably styled using primarily vintage finds and I have often drooled over some of the combinations, especially the ones that appear to get their insipiration from 70's biker babe fashions.
