Nothing better than coming to work on a Monday with lots of new deliveries from the mail-man! Along with some serious re-stocking of the Eve Gravel "The Moon" dress (close contender with Valerie's Jean dress for THE dress of the summer), we also got a great package full of goodies from Elaine Ho, who you might all know a little better as Roadkill. Elaine re-stocked us on some sold out styles, sent us a CRAZY amazing new fish jaw necklace along with some totally rad leather purses & cute summer tops!

Pepito Mimumo batik top for 70$. Love batik! I think this year I'll try and wear only batik and/or tye-dye every night of Bluesfest. Starting with this top!

Check out the amazing cowl-neck back on these kitties! (I know the proper expression should be puppies, but there seems to be no reason why it couldn't be kitties either, so can we all try together to change it in our cultural lexicon to also be kitties? Puppies have dominated our collective consciousness for too long I think.)

Anchor pendant 60$. The same goes for the expression "these are selling like hot cakes" (which these are). Katie always thought the expression was "selling like pancakes". But why not pancakes? A pancake is a sort of hot cake, no? And what is a hot cake exactly? And where can you get them piping hot anyways?

It also comes in a nice swiss dot. Pepito Mimumo (70$). Pepito Mimumo is Elaine's brand for her clothing, and I believe it is the name of either one or 2 of her cats. So naturally I'm sure Elaine would be on board for the whole kitties/puppies expression switch.

Here's a close-up of the totally rad & mega bad-ass fish jaw necklace she just sent us!! (190$) Elaine actually cast it from a super scary fish jaw she found a few years ago on the beach. Only the mind of someone truly awesome would find something kinda gross like this and think it would make an awesome necklace. And that is why we really really like her!

And now the bags....ahhhhhh, perfection! No really. The perfect washed leather. The black matte studs that almost looked like they are also covered in leather! Braided straps...

Both are 140$, and exactly the "rock'n'roll" in this tea party we are always going on about!

Wanna come too?

As someone who doesn't like to travel, and I don't mean exotic travel... I don't really see the point of leaving Ottawa much ever (best city on earth!). This video made me want to be back in NYC exploring shops and eating lots of donuts:

Pica your poisson

My mom has this thing, I guess it's her style but I think of it more as 'one of her things'. When she gets a new bathing suit (which happens a lot, she loves the sun and hanging out in her bathing suit randomly around the house) she also gets new earrings to match. She finds it balance the look out, 'cause without jewelry on it might seem a little naked to be receiving company in only your bathing suit....Maybe just a tad mom!

Well I think she and the rest of us could have a lot of fun matching our bathing suits to some of the out-of-sight new pieces from PICA.

All earrings $30.

rock 'n' roll baby.

What was your prom like? I love hearing stories about other people's prom experiences, mostly because mine sucked. Was it everything you dreamed of and more? Did your parents shell out their credit cards for you to get a dress, and then did your lifelong crush serenade you with Dan Hill's "Sometimes When We Touch" in the school cafeteria before handing you a bouquet of hot pink roses and asking you to be his date? And on the night of were you voted Prom Queen & King and then when your after party got broken up you and Mr. Prom King were the only ones out of all your friends who didn't get chased by the cops? This was my dream of what I thought prom would be...I was rudely mistaken but i won't get into details...If this was how your night went down and you want to relive it in all it's glory or of you ended up being the culprit of a mean spiked punch and just want an entire do-over then you will have the chance on Saturday night!

Heat Wave!!

If anyone is not a sweaty mess right now, they are my enemy! This heat wave is beyond. I am both in love with it and dreading every hour of sweating ahead of me. I know it is super hot because even Regine wanted to go for a midnight dip yesterday and she is not a swimmer. I won't turn the A/C on at West (it is still broken at Dal!) because it feels like not too long ago we were dealing with blizzards but all I talk about with customers is how they are managing to beat the heat.

Here are some shop suggestions, they will get you through every hour you are away from the beach (and how much does Ottawa rule for having beaches through out the city? Ottawa, you are my true love!).

Wise & Proper, $92
Perfect for homemade Popsicle on your front stoop.

Osei Duro, $78

Made in Ghana, this is sure to keep you cool, cause they know heat in Ghana!

Dace Amie, $130

Mojitos, margaritas, sangrias, all match beautifully with this top! Especially by the pitcher.

Sessie, $99

This will keep you looking civilized over your bathing suit on your bike ride to the beach. Pack a picinic, your cellphone and day planner and make a little outdoor office.

Astral Weeks

Van Morrison and Joni Mitchell have been in heavy rotation at the Westboro store this week. Listening to these guys along with this beautiful weather we're having puts me in the ultimate of good moods!

Me, attempting to channel an Astral Weeks kind of vibe with a Lily and Jae boyfriend top $149, Ella Peru shorts $120, and a Joni Mitchell grin.

I can't resist this song.

Get ups!

All this talk and pictures of cute bloomers and vintage bathing suits makes me lust even more after all the great little numbers in Beyonce's new video. Man I would kill for any one of them!

Though with our sunny outlook on Summer-time fun, we wouldn't be crying as much as she is....

Panty Raid!

I'm sure Doug Clark would enjoy this little basket of bloomers.

Mandy's Panties are the perfect sleep accessory and are great to wear underneath a full summer skirt.

Super cute and $49 bucks each!

Ahoy Hoy Long Weekend!

Just wanted to update everyone of the weather report for this weekend. It looks like Sunday is going to be partly cloudy...which means the other part will be sunny! It's also going to be 27 degrees! And Monday is going to be all sunny with a high of 30 degrees! You know what that means...optimal weather for having fun! Take a lesson from these beach babes, they look like they know how to have a good time!

All pictures from http://www.flickr.com/photos/silent_screen_queen/sets/72157623484363075/

*also we will be open from 12:00-5:00 p.m. at both locations on Monday*

I know you fine, but how you doin?

With a summer that has already been full to the brim with picnics, parties and shrinky dink craft dates, it's hard to think that things are going to get even BETTER with some of the shows coming to town over the next couple of months. As a total Victoire n00b employee (hi guys! I'm Kristal!), it's fun to know that the other lovely Victoire ladies are already just as excited as I am about Wicked Summer Fest 2010. On that note, I'm going to take my first official internet blog post opportunity to talk about one of the shows I am most excited about seeing this summer.

Holy crap - The Gories. At Bluesfest!

After a pretty intense breakup in 1992, I definitely never thought I'd get a chance to see their gritty, dirty awesome blend of garage'n'blues but they are back (for now) and coming to Ottawa for one of only a few limited stops in north america.

Their drummer, Peg O'Neill, also happens to be one of the most badass babes ever and one of the reasons I decided picked up the sticks for the very first time in high school.

Cutie sock'n'shoes? check!

Killer bangs and sweetie pie shirt? Check!

Blouse'n'skirt combo? Check!

I could totally see her in our Lily and Jae Bloom dress that we've got at both locations right now. It comes complete with a pair of built in bloomers/shorts, for the more dangerous of tasks: biking around the city, dancing up a saturday or holding down the beat in a sweaty dirty basement somewhere in new york. AWESOME.

Hey guys!

I want to introduce you all to a new guest blogger here at Victoire. His name is Josh (or as we call him, Joshy), and he is Shasha's boy-friend (doesn't Shashy & Joshy just roll off the tongue? I love it.) Pretty much as long as Shasha's worked for us, Josh has been a pretty steady presence at Victoire as well. Through the years we've tried to find ways to employ him (stock boy? Victoire podcaster?) just so he'll hang out at the shop even more (yes, in a perfect world where we are millionaires Katie and I often talk about paying all the cute boys we love just to make us sandwiches/write raps about the designers we carry/make store mixes/etc). Anyhow, with Shashy now gone, Josh is still in Ottawa for the summer finishing up with school before joining her in Toronto in the Fall. So that means we'll have him writing some blog posts here and there over the summer, yay!

On Monday it was Katie’s birthday and so we all went out last Saturday night to celebrate it and to say goodbye to Natasha. In the morning on Sunday Natasha and I did manage to get up for brunch but both of us were in rough shape. So when Tash decided to sleep for the rest of the day I looked for a tv show that wouldn't be a strain on my sore, tired head and blurry vision.

What I found is a television channel I now want to endorse. For about 3 hours I watched the pet network. When I first turned it on the show that was airing was called “cats” and was pictures of cats and interesting facts about cats. Like that Venetians took the first domesticated cats from Egypt and that they were black. And that vikings brought orange tabbies (called marmalades) into Europe from Turkey.

The show that followed was called “dogs” and followed the same formula, but there were a few yelp-y little dogs that didn’t jive with my hangover, but I stuck it out. I was rewarded with a final image of a dog morphing into a wolf with a background of fire.

While looking on the pet network’s website I found a link to “pet tube” and it’s exactly what it sounds like. This video was especially helpful for my hangover:

The final result of all this pet tv is that I now know exactly what dogs and cats I want (but can’t have). I want an irish wolfhound and a roundhead siamese cat (Natasha wants a marmalade named Cybl).

(Regine's note: Josh, I have to agree with you on the roundhead siamese. I am definitely partial to cats with cute round faces. To me, an angular cat is like a fish without fins. Just plain unnatural. A cat should be all roundness, no corners or sharp edges.)

Soul Sister

Dear Sarah Polley,

Not only are you a great example of an independent Canadian girl, but you are beautiful and have a wicked bad ass side. I hold nothing against you for getting black listed by Disney for wearing a peace symbol around your neck. I do hold your interview with George Stroumboulopoulos against you though because i am madly in love with him. Aside from all of this you have an admirable fashion sense as well, this was evident when you chose Canadian label, Lily & Jae to wear during your interview.

Thanks for being one of the best role models a girl could ask for and looking good while doing it,

Sage

Ahoy Victoire!

Today I need a lot to be happy, rough morning and all. Though if this happened I would be more then merely happy, I would be in 7th heaven, or should I say 7th sea (errr... not sure if that makes sense, again rough morning).

First I need a sail boat on the Ottawa River and the skills to sail, or maybe a reformed pirate that has stories of gold treasure and Pipi Longstocking sittings.

Then very cozy shorts that I can look cute in but still sweep the deck.
Valerie Dumaine Dominique, $109

I need a stripped dress so that my pirate knows I am very serious about my sailor life. Also, I think the fish will be easier to catch while wearing stripes... I would bet anyways!

Betina Loo Beatrice, $135

Definitly need a spare pretty dress because the other one smells like fish and that will make it hard to fall asleep in my hammock.

Birds of North America, $179

Make sure to wear only brass so that the pirate isn't tempted to go back to former ways!

Steel Magnolia, $29

Definitly need a jumper, because it's just too perfect!

Sessie, $99
