Tart Heart

If you've stopped by the store(s) recently you may have noticed that we received a new shipment of In God We Trust necklaces. If you missed out on "Bless this mess", or "Balls to the wall" last time, you've got another chance to snap one up!

We've also got the classic, "let's make out", "sweet tits", "wonder buns" and many more.

In God We Trust sweet nothings necklace, $49.

The perfect deviant accessory to wear around your near sighted grandmother/boss/pastor.

Hold my rings

So I've taken to wearing alot of rings this summer. Most days I have at least 1 ring on practically every finger on my left hand, and now it's spread to my right hand too, like some sort of glitter rash. Along with the maximum glitter nail polish I got from Sephora a few weeks ago, my hands are actually starting to look a bit grotesque.

Yarn Over Movement, Tara-Lynn, Bancroft
Bancroft tops, 88$

However, today we got in some absolutely stunning hand-knit tops by YarnOverMovement that are making me truly reconsider the ring infestation on my hands. See, these tops are so so beautiful and precious when you hold them, and you can absolutely feel the love & time that went into making each one, that I handled them with the care usually only reserved for my tissue-thin and beaded vintage blouses. So today that meant taking off all my rings (and bracelets) before pulling one on. And it kinda felt good to lose all that clinging and clanging from my hands in exchange for the softest hand-dyed Merino wool.

YarnOverMovement, Bancroft, Stay Fancyfree
All YarnOverMovement knits are conceived and hand crafted by Tara-Lynn in her Hamilton home where she lives with her hubby & daughter. She culls her inspiration from new wave films of the 50s & 60s, thrifted gems and old photos of ballerinas. Being a fan of her blog for a while now, she & our new pals over at White Elephant make Hamilton seem like a pretty rad place, a place I imagine having alot in common with Ottawa. Anyways, I couldn't be happier to add YarnOverMovement to Victoire's family of designers and we hope you give her pieces a big 'ol bear hug next time you come in the shop. Just make sure to take off all your rings before ya do.

Yarn Over Movement, Bancroft
This is me doing a dancer's pose (gah, I forget what position this is!) in honour of the ballet inspiration behind these pieces. Thought this deserved a little explanation as it was not quite as obvious as I hoped it would be and you guys might wonder why the hell I'm doing this thing with my arms. Oh, also I'm wearing the ComplexGeometries long leggings onepiece underneath this one. See how it's the perfect layering piece?!

Sunday, June 27, 2010

It's a lazy Sunday for me at home, and I'm actually enjoying it quite alot. I started my morning off with some scones from Scone Witch, and now I'm catching up on chores (I have so much ironing to do!) while listening to France Gall, which means chore time is actually turning into dance party/serenading myself in the mirror time/fantasizing about a quick Parisian getaway, maybe with a boy (no offence Katie, but next time we go to Paris, let's bring members of the opposite sex). Which of course got me to thinking about the perfect getaway wardrobe that would be France Gall worthy. And I think that would have to mean a suitcase full of (212) pieces.

212 Bonnie

212 Penny

212 Shelly

212 Sherri
Sherri high-waisted shorts (except we have them in black - 110$)

212 Terry

With details like big-front bows, sequin hearts, stripes, peekaboo open backs and Peter Pan collars, it says 1960s Parisian mod from head to toe.

Oh Canada

We here at Victoire are pretty patriotic. So naturally, we are psyched for Canada Day in the Capital! According to the weather network it will not rain on Thursday, so get ready to party! I look forward to celebrating this fair country by biking around and eating way too much barbecued food.

If you're heading down West Wellington any time soon, come check out our Canadiana themed window display!

Also check out this article in today's Citizen about cool Canadiana, featuring Victoire designers Roadkill, Valerie Dumaine and Jules Power (coming this Fall!)

Lately, my web browser has been locked on this thing called Got a Girl Crush. It is a great blog dedicated to showcasing rad gals doing cool things. Here are a couple of photos from recent entries.

It's your town

How great is it to be able to go up the street to your friend Mandi's adorable bakery? To be able to stop by the local art house video store and charm the cute owners? To have drinks at a bar where everyone might not know your name but they have seen you really drunk alot of times?

And even the places that aren't charming, the hardware store where the high school kid always sells you the wrong thing, the bookstore with the grumpy grandpa that stands in your way to the new to you Martine book, or the pharmacy where everything on the shelves is dusty but you can still get Mountain Dew's Code Red.....

These are the little spots that make a city your home, and if you read this blog you probably love all your little locals as much as we do (and thank you for loving Victoire!!). It's impossible to explain why it's funner to go to a zillion little spots searching to find the things you could have gone to a Major for, but if you love it then you love it.

We obviously love it, love it alot! That is why we got so pissed when we found out about Urban Outfitters new strategy to have their store fronts look like many little local shops and it's not until you walk in you realize the trap. This is shitty, and not 'ironic' at all as they claim! It's already so hard for the indies to survive, and now the curb appeal of their store fronts is being taken? Come on!

Let the little guys have the charm of cute store fronts, UO you can still have all the money....

see ya later Christian Slater

As of tomorrow, I will officially be a high school graduate. Exciting? It would be if it weren't for the fact that I haven't even begun to write my speech as Valedictorian. But I have begun to think of what I will need in order to make the transition from dweeby high school kid, to calm, cool and collected adult as easy as possible....

A handy purse to carry all my important documents,
Steel Magnolia bag $29

Sensible footwear (pardon my bum foot, I was in a nasty battle with a clam shell and lost obviously) Marais USA Oxfords, $89

Sunglasses to shade me from the glare of reality,

Steel Magnolia sunglasses $19

and last but not least...a cute dress for the surprise after party that a sly somebody (my mother) is throwing for me that I have no clue about, i swear.

Eve Gravel "Pretty Woman" dress $190

oh hey civilization.

To be totally honest, i have never been more excited to see buses and pavement and to wear real clothes. I just got back from a four day canoe trip through Barron Canyon and although it was beautiful and peaceful it is going to take me a looong time to massage the knots out of my shoulders and for my tan to fade. Needless to say, it is time to enjoy a weekend in the city!

I plan on throwing on this little outfit...

Noir Bonbon tank $45 & Supayana skirt $60

And repping my ancestors with this hair piece in celebration of National Aboriginal Day on Monday...

Claire O. hairpiece $20

If this holiday doesn't ring a bell, it's basically a celebration of Aboriginal culture and life and takes place on the first official day of Summer every year. For me it's a chance to celebrate first nation's women who rock musically and fashionably...

Buffy Saint Marie.

and Shoshona Kish of the Juno winning band Digging Roots.
There is tons of stuff happening this weekend to celebrate so check out the schedule, a lot of it is free and the perfect way to cap off your evening after an afternoon of shopping in West Wellington Village's sidewalk sale where we will be posted up at our new location with all clothing 20% off and even more sale items outside!

We've got wood

A new shipment from Bop & Dani arrived this morning, and it made me realise how many of our jewelry designers are using wood these days. (Bop & Dani earrings 23-27$)

Genevieve Jodouin brooches (20$ each)

Brooklyn Rehab key necklace (28$)

Frug necklaces & earrings (33$ each)

I'm pretty excited about it actually.

So excited for this:

Get it together gals!

Our landlord just came in to announce that this weekend is supposed to get HOT. This tip off was so we could make sure our A/C is working, but I think we should take it as a general call to get our shit together for the weekend!

Now we can't help you with stocking your freezer or calling up your crew to meet at the beach, but we can inspire you with a new outfit that is perfect for city chilling:

Steel Magnolia necklaces, $39

Lily & Jae Creek Tank, $109

Valerie Dumaine Dominique Shorts, $109

And don't forget the 20%off sale is still on at the West Wellington shop until Saturday at 6pm. And the shop is conveniently close to the beach!!

J'adore Edmoure

I came in to work today and found a whole bunch of beautiful jewelry. Edmoure Ralph is a line out of Toronto and their stuff combines modern and vintage with such ease that we couldn't resist picking them up.

One of my favorite earrings reminds me of a those chain shades Beyonce wore in her Diva video.....

Same look yet these leave you with 100% of your natural vision.

Edmoure Ralph Chain earrings $42
