it's just a spook.
Halloween isn't always about costumes and candied apples and dancing all night with your friends. Okay, well it is to me and most of my friends, but Halloween is also meant to be a time for you to get nicely spooked. I'm an easy target, the Dovercourt Community Centre annual Haunted House is still a little much for me but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. Any other day of the year and the thought of something to do with the living dead would totally put me off, but around this time of year a little shiver up my spine either from the cold weather or from someone screaming in a haunted house just ads to the excitement. If costumes aren't your thing but looking good is, these pieces kind of have a ghostly life of their own...
Need your bionic ideas!
I need Halloween costume ideas! Let us know what you are dressing up as and the one that empresses us the most gets a prize.
Maybe even a spooky prize.

Victoire Loves Lake Jane
Last week, our pals over at Lake Jane stopped by the shop to graciously lend a hand and create a window display that will surely blow you away. Things have been busy 'round these parts with new baby Eloise, buying trips, new fall shipments and new team members in the mix (!!) so we can't even describe how helpful these kind of project really are to us!

It is really something you need to see in person to fully appreciate. The scattered paper backdrop is such a neat idea! And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Her blog is a constant source of inspiration for all things design, fashion, food and fun related!
Click the Lake Jane icon below to check it out for yourself!

Aubergine
Aubergine, or dark purple is definitely our hot colour for fall this year. I'm happy, because not only is eggplant one of my favourite foods but the colour reminds me of an ad campaign that Eaton's department store ran in the early 2000's centered around the colour, aubergine. I always thought that campaign looked very classy and vintage chic. It also taught me my first french word.Glad you're back in my closet aubergine and not just on my plate!

somebubbies to love
So the most incredible thing happened yesterday morning. Katie was stepping out of her house to go and meet Marie-Eve from Lake Jane who was at our Westboro shop working on our new window (pics to come soon!). We were already running a tad late. But then there was the most unreal surprise on her front steps - a box full of kittens!!
We don't know who left them there, but we suspect it was someone who wanted them to survive but didn't think they could be the person to take care of them (they were left with a warm blanket and food), but who thought perhaps Katie and Nick would be the best people to take care of finding them homes. Anyone who's ever met Katie or even more so Nick for even just a second probably knows what animal & cat lovers they are. Nick knows all the cats on his block - by name - and there are 23 of them! (He did a count yesterday). He also knows most of the cats in MY neighbourhood.
Anyways, he brought them to the vet and she gave them a clean bill of health. They are just 4 weeks old, and I've been hanging out with them for the last um, 15 hours (seriously, I just went home to sleep and was back at their place this morning to have all 4 of them nestle in my lap) and can attest to their adorableness & sweet dispositions. Neither Katie nor my household can accommodate another kitty-poo (I have 2, and Katie and Nick have 3 - oh yeah, AND a baby!). So this is a call-out to anyone out there who might be interested in adopting one of these puffs. There were 4, 1 has since found a happy home, and so there are 3 left looking for mommies and/or daddies.
This beautiful tabby is still looking for a home (we called him the Grabber, cos he loved to be close to us, and would grab onto our shirts so tight to stay with us!)
This one is the runt of the litter. Also still looking for a home!
THE BEST!! Nick called this one Mrs. Clean cos she was great at keeping her coat fresh, but Katie and I have renamed her the Chiller cos she is unflappable and can totally snooze through her sisters & bros being rambunctious around her. I can see this cat turning into the perfect lap cat, or being totally chill being introduced to a home that already has other cats or pets.
Katie's cat Rocco, most recently the last kitten in this household, looks on with what looks like a single tear in his eye. He is big, old and boring now. But we still love him!!
Anyways, if you are interested in possibly adopting one of these sweetie pies, just email us at notrevictoire@gmail.com and we'll arrange for you to come and see them! xo

NYC
....so this semi-annual buying trip happened like almost exactly a month ago. But stuff's been busy so I haven't had a chance to blog about it yet. And the pictures were on Katie's computer. But I still think it's worth blogging about, mostly cos there's one really funny picture to post and the rest is kindof filler. Well not really, but you know.

Anyways, this trip began like all the others: get some Bridgehead coffees for the road, triple check that we packed our passports, and a text from Nick (Katie's husband) telling us to take his underwear out of the glovebox. You know, cos it might cause them to ask us some interesting questions at the border.

Sure enough, we opened the glovebox and there they were. We decided to keep them there for safe keeping though.
So you'll notice someone's missing from these pictures, but perhaps a new face to you guys is present. Eloise was only about 3 weeks old when the timing for our New York trip rolled around so our best pal MC came with me so I wouldn't be all alone in the big city! And MC was such a great travel companion!

For one thing, she brought great audio books from the Ottawa Public Library (hi mom!) for us to listen to.

Katie and I also always like to get an early start on the road to get maximum NYC time, and MC comes from a family that would load the car at 4:00 a.m. for family vacays so it was easy to get her on board with this plan too. The only problem with such an early start though is that when you hit your first McD craving, they do NOT serve cheeseburgers before 11:00 a.m.

I wanted to swipe these to make a burger-themed window at the shop or something, but MC wisely advised me against it.

Now this probably doesn't seem like a big deal to you guys, and probably doesn't make for very exciting "NYC travel blog!" content, but we knew our trip was off to a GREAT start when we found FREE street parking RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR HOTEL!! Mc and I jumped up and down and hugged each other a million times we were sooo excited! Anyways, we took a picture as proof.
Oh yeah, and like 5 minutes later Leighton Meester (xoxo, Gossip Girl) was in the Jane Hotel lobby, but we didn't get a picture of that. We were way more excited about the parking spot.

You guys already know that we LOVE watching TV in hotel rooms. Well this time we got to watch a crappy TV movie that Janeane Garofalo was in that was shot in Ottawa! Do you guys remember that? It was a few years ago and kindof exciting at the time I think. Well it was for us cos we had probably only been open for a few months and Janeane Garofalo came in and bought 2 necklaces from us! OMG first celebrity client! Eat that Leighton Meester.

Now before I bore you guys to death with tales of books on tape, TV movies in hotel rooms and parking spaces, we DID actually do some pretty cool things in New York. Most of which involved food (as usual). These pics were taken at a place we read about on the Selby but that ultimately was more style than substance. Dommage.

But nothing beats fresh fish tacos at the Brooklyn Flea Market!!

We also visited the gals at In God we Trust to pick up some lovely new necklaces for y'all and checked out their Williamsburg location which is now mostly vintage housewares. Of course we loved it.

In sum, it was a great trip. USA! USA! USA!
