It's spring now right????

YES! It must be, its freaking March 30th!!

So now that that is covered: Can it be strawberry picking time so that my man can make me this?

Strawberry Cake

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened, plus more for pie plate
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pound strawberries, hulled and halved

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 10-inch pie plate. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together into a medium bowl.

  2. Put butter and 1 cup sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on medium-high speed until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Reduce speed to medium-low; mix in egg, milk, and vanilla.

  3. Reduce speed to low; gradually mix in flour mixture. Transfer batter to buttered pie plate. Arrange strawberries on top of batter, cut sides down and as close together as possible. Sprinkle remaining 2 tablespoons sugar over berries.

  4. Bake cake 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees. Bake until cake is golden brown and firm to the touch, about 1 hour. Let cool in pie plate on a wire rack. Cut into wedges. Cake can be stored at room temperature, loosely covered, up to 2 days.

Steel Magnolia's dreams coming true!

As you all know Regine and I have a passion for vintage. A passion that has forced us to start selling some of our pieces (last count: we have over 100 dresses from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s!). It's a very hard process for us, but we know that so many of you cherish and love these pieces as much as we do. You will be good little mamas!

Our two vintage sales a year (next one only two Saturday away - April 9th!) are not enough to curtail our collecting (Or to stop the complaining of our guys. If you've got to die, drowning in tulle seems like a good way to go. To us anyways!). So we have started an etsy shop!

We have been so envious of other people's shops, a mall full of handmade and vintage treasures. It's a dream world where exploitation and big box stores are forgotten. Where everything is special and links you to interesting people!

And now we are a part of it! We are still at the initial start up stage, so stay tuned as we add more and more of our pieces.

What do you think? Please let us know. We have been working really hard and would be so happy to know if this is something you are into!

Walking on Sunshine

.

Is your squinty eyed glare giving people the wrong message ? Do people incessantly ask you if you are giving them the stink eye when you're only trying to see through some UVs ? Do you frequently get in sun related car accidents ? If so... Victoire has got the answer and the remedy.
We have just got in a bounty of A.J. Morgan sunglasses for your wearing pleasure.

Some Victoire customers and I sporting some A.J. Morgans (All of which are going for only 19 dollars .. if that doesn't warrant a Joey from Blossom woah then I don't know what does)

Scarves and sunglasses ? What is this weather coming to?

Thank you to the lovely customers of Victoire for looking so beautiful in these A.J.'s.

me and my stubborn strand of hair ( it has been sticking up all week) sporting some shades. I have always thought I look like a dink in sunglasses so I thank the customers of Victoire for making this post just that much cooler.

All the best Victoirians !

Bigger, Better and Girlier!

Our VINTAGE DRESS sale is upon us!

April 9th from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. we will be filling the shop with tulle, crinoline, lace and bows. With the help of Aunt Olive's there will be more dresses from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s worthy of every single Hitchcock heroine. This is definitely an event to arrive early for, it ensures you get to view all the gems. All you have to do is dream up your perfect spring day and cast yourself as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, or Mia Farrow. These are dresses fit for dance-offs, battle boats, proms, puttering around the house and even a few perfect for brides!

We will also be offering 10% off all our regular stock for the event!

After the amazing sell-through and the around the block line up from the last few vintage sales, we've decided to host a preview night on Friday April 8th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm so that die hard ladies will get a chance to view the full collection and guarantee they will be bringing home their must-have treasure. Whether the piece is reminiscent of a star of the silver screen or your very own grandma, vintage is meant to be loved and cherished. But don’t forget, vintage is truly one of a kind, so once these dresses are gone: they are gone! In other words, this is not the occasion to arrive fashionably late!

10 things under 30

Inspired by our loves and sister store White Elephant, it has come to our attention that some shoppers think that shopping at a boutique costs more money. Pretty much, boutiques are getting a BAD REP. This really needs to END. Realistically you could spend the same, if not more if you head over to some lame chain store (cough, cough). So, in light of these accusations I am going to challenge this notion by posting SOME of the wonderful treasures such as art, jewelry, home decor, reading material and clothing that we have here at Victoire for under thirty bones!

My moto for today:
"Come by the SHOP, it's worth the WALK"
(seriously, we are not that far down Dalhousie or Wellington people!)

1. Worn Fashion Journal $ 6. These puppies are timeless and seasonless reads all about fashion. Honestly, this is some awesome readin'!

2. Crywolf Shark Tank $ 25. Pair with some slacks and you're set for a weekend oot and aboot!

3. Steel Magnolia Earrings $ 19. Killer studs and hoops for under twenty bucks! YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!

4. Vintage Glass Owl $15. I love owls. That is all.

5. Alphabet Pins $ 10. I think everyone shoudl try and spell their names accross their jackets. You in?

6. Steel Magnolia Bangles $ 15 each. Layer them or wear' em alone. Bangles don't go out of style.

7. Be Proud Badges $ 25. These are hilarious gifts and if you really want to, buy one for yourself and just rock it. If you are really proud of something.. FLAUNT it.

8. Bananas for BOWTIES! $ 13. These are so in fashion. Boy or Girl- everyone needs a bowtie.

9. A.J. Morgan Glasses $ 19. Fake glasses and hip shades. For those sunny days hopefully on the way..OR trying to look smarter than you are.

10. Steel Magnolia Necklaces $29. Tons of jewelry in the store for under thirty dollars but I had to just pick my favorites for RIGHT NOW.

New Frug!

I am looking outside right now and it is SO sunny. I'm not even looking at the screen right now because I AM SO EXCITED FOR SPRING I CAN'T EVEN BREATHE. New stuff has been keeping me quite busy over the last little bit but it's so worth it. Check out these new Frug pieces that we just received at both locations. No flash needed, of course, since the sun is my favorite little pal right now.

The first Frug necklace in the picture below has an actual hourglass inside of that gold casing, and a tiny owl with a decorative black charm hanging just above it. The one in the middle has a locket and a little vial where a special note can be kept real close. The last one is a watch! They are all on long chains to boot - all under $50!

And these are a couple of the earrings and rings that we received - and everything you see is under $35. Lots of bright colors, lots of brassy vintage inspired pieces and lots of pretty golds and silvers.

"Inspired by kitschy fun with a cheeky twist, früg is designed for people who enjoy making bold statements and revelling in their own signature style."
